I am looking for a particular girls cardigan from the '60s. Light grey wool with dark grey trim, dark grey suede elbow patches and silver buttons with thistle design. Don't know whether it was made by MacGregor, Pendleton, but the thistle buttons and elbow patches are distinctive. Please help, if you can! Thanks much
Janet:
I know exactly what you're looking for! It was made in the early 60s by Pringle of Scotland I believe. The cashmere or lamb's wool sweaters had metal butons with a thistle design- a Scottish emblem- that were used by cashmere sweater manufacturers in the 60s and were a take-off on military buttons. We wore the sweaters with knee-length blue or green heathered a-line wool skirts and matching knee-socks. And let's not forget the cordovan penny loafers that completed the look. Of course this was all just before the British Invasion!
