Molly
Hello Janet, I have a silk embroidered bed-jacket (hand-stitched in china) and a sheepskin jacket, hand-embroidered from Poland. Each belonged to my grandmother and so qualify as vintage. They both need repair and then cleaning. I don't know who to trust to deal with these pieces. as they are family heirlooms I am looking for someone in nyc who can treat them exactly as they need. Can you advise me on where to take them in nyc? Thank you so much. Molly
Janet:
I asked Marlene Wetherell, owner of Marlene Wetherell Vintage Fashion and Photography, where she takes her dry cleaning. She said that she, and most vintage dealers in the city, take their dry cleaning to Earth Cleaners at 250 8th Ave (23rd & 22nd Sts.)
Irina from Silhouettes and Profiles at 160 w. 71St. does all of Marlene's restorations.
Cleaning and restoration experts are hard to find (even in nyc) and always busy, so hurry and get your wonderful heirlooms restored to their original beauty!
