Dear Janet, I am interested in buying vintage Pucci dresses, especially the circa '60 and '70 pieces. Do you have any tips for me to spot the genuine items and the price range they should be?
Janet:
There are several important details you should look for when shopping for vintage Pucci items... make sure the label states Emilio Pucci Made in Italy or Made in Florence, Italy (the label may also have Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor and other exclusive shops which carried his collections in the past)... look for the "emilio" signature, signed in lower case, throughout the fabric. You may also find pieces he designed for Formfit Rodgers that have the "epfr" (Emilio Pucci Formfit Rodgers)signed throughout the fabric... this was a successful venture Mr. Pucci entered into during the 60s and 70s, using Italian fabric, but not manufacturing the items in Italy. The "epfr" pieces are usually lower priced than the Emilio Pucci dresses because
they were made out of nylon jersey for use as lingerie (although the colorful nighties and gowns are often used as tops and dresses by fashionistas today!) The price range varies according to quality, print, colors and style of Pucci pieces. Check out the Mid Century Chic shop on FASHIONDIG for the best selection of high-quality vintage Pucci dresses, "epfr" sets and stylish Pucci accessories.
