 Hello Janet, We have a party and the invitation says black tie. What should we wear?

  Black tie means that it's time to dust off your party dress, gown, tiara, gloves, sparkly diamonds, and do it up. Wear something "formal", not a sequined top and jeans, to a black tie affair. Your escort should be in a tuxedo or tails. If it's a very formal affair, a floor length gown is appropriate, otherwise a cocktail dress is okay. You can also wear a hair ornament, an updo or a cocktail hat which is fun and very trendy right now. Have a great time!
