Hi Janet, I am planning a mock wedding for a couple married 50 years. Could you advise me on fashions for the bridal party? Were poodle skirts a 50's style? Your suggestions may be humorous since this is a mock wedding and the script has a great deal of wit in it.
Janet:
If it's a wedding party, some semblance of formality would be nice to maintain, so don't go the poodle skirt route, go in the prom queen direction. For a 1950's look, find some full-length net gowns, add some corsages, wrist length gloves, mink stoles, and you have a perfect picture of a wedding party. Why not have each member of the wedding party dress as a 1950's personality? Someone could do the Marilyn Monroe sexy look, another guest could be a sultry Kim Novak. Men can dress up as Marlon Brando, James Dean...everyone should find a celebrity they resemble, and play it to the hilt!
