Tracy
I have recently been given a mink beret which my mother-in-law inherited from her aunt. I think its from the 1950's. How do I look after it and is it valuable.
Janet:
If the hat had been stored with a furrier in cold storage, cleaned and is
in supple, luxurious shape, it may be worth several hundred dollars... which
is what it would cost to replace it with a new custom made fur hat. If It hasn't
been stored properly, take it immediately to your local furrier, and ask him to assess the skin condition and clean it for you. Make sure it's stored and cleaned properly every season from now on and it should last another 40 years!
